Spoiler alert: I may be biased, I know, but I can’t help falling in love with Chloe Sevigny. Uncontested queen of any d’art et d’essai film and independent TV-series, Chloe Sevigny is often disputed among various brands, as all want her iconic personality to be featured in one of their campaigns. One of the latest fashion houses that has managed to let her channel her blonde locks and iconic attitude in its latest ad campaign is Jimmy Choo, which chose her as the new Jimmy Choo spring/summer 2016 shoe campaign’s brand ambassador, letting her wear her favourite shoes from the collection in the shoot, which you can also get your hands on at the brand’s website.
Known for her eclectic style, which made her particularly famous in the Nineties, Chloe Sevigny models equally eclectic shoes throughout the campaign, sporting different proposals from Jimmy Choo’s SS 2016 accessory collection. From the Dexie cowgirl open-toe flat boots to pointy-toe pin-up pumps, from the Nineties-infused Perla 70 platform wedges to the Miami white sneakers, the talented actress wears her favorites and manages to perfectly embody Jimmy Choo’s free-spirited soul and versatility, making us long for those stunning shoes and sunglasses.
It is also worth noticing notice that, while it was Bay Garnett who styled Sevigny, it was the actress herself who chose what shoes and accessories to wear. As for the setting, Sevigny poses in vintage-looking bars and trucks, surrounded by what seems to be the same suburban environment she grew up in. Such backdrops make a good and artistic contrast especially in comparison with Jimmy Choo’s luxury studded clutches.
“I loved the white Luc pump with the ankle strap and the red vinyl at the toe cleavage. These shoes would be great with jeans or a sexy dress. They reminded me of white pumps I’d wear in the 90s, with everything. I love a white shoe, it’s a bold statement,” revealed Sevigny in an interview for Jimmy Choo’s official website. With just one official statement, Jimmy Choo’s creative director Sandra Choi managed to perfectly describe both Sevigny’s offbeat aplomb and the brand’s signature aesthetics, proving one doesn’t have to be a conventionally chic model to fully represent an haute couture fashion house.
“I love the fact that she’s a bit unexpected and has such a unique and creative aesthetic making our collection work with her style. The shoot embodies the spirit of the collection, laid back glamour against a sultry, sun bleached backdrop of palm shadows and pastel shades. You can almost feel the sun on your skin,” she added.
If you are not familiar with Sevigny’s works, I recommend watching either Big Love, a TV-series that explores the Mormon Fundamentalist community, or Boys Don’t Cry, one of the saddest films in the history of dramas.
As for Chloe’s iconic style, you can either have a look at her latest book, Chloe Sevigny, or follow one of her Jimmy Choo-inspired fashion tips: “Sunglasses are an everyday must for me. My eyes are sensitive to the light and once I find a pair I love I wear them till they fall apart. I’m really looking forward to wearing the bejewelled ones from the shoot, so fun and they’d elevate any outfit.”
