NM:
How would you describe your signature look and what is it about your style that sets you apart from other makeup and hair artists?

RW: There are many creative and inspiring makeup and hair artists in the world of glamour. My self-sense of style consists of not having much of a dramatic makeover. I feel that one should still show their own beauty while they enhance it with a bit of makeup or even a hairstyle. My signature look would be volumized blowout curls to enhance the vibrant color of my red/magenta ombre. And makeup wise, you can never go wrong with sleek cut wing eyeliner.

NM: What should be a women’s hair care routine for longer, healthier and shiny hair?

RW: I generally get asked how I keep my long hair so healthy and shiny. Over the years of having “Bad accidents” at the hair salon, I taught myself how to cut, color and style my own hair.  I give myself a slight trim (nothing drastic, 1-2 inches) every 4-6 months. To keep my hair shiny and strong, I go for the old school “DESI TOTKAY” techniques. Don’t get me wrong, there are many great hair products out there, yet I feel that what’s better than opening up your kitchen cabinet and using natural ingredients. What I use once a week for myself is a mixture of Almond oil, Mustards oil, and coconut oil. Leave it on overnight for your hair and scalp to soak the oils in for best results.

NM: There is an enormous range of beauty and hair care products available.  Which are your favorites?

RW: My favorite beauty products would be Smash Box Photo Finish Primer, followed by L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro Glow 24 hour foundation. What would be greater than having sleek, smooth looking skin? My favorite all time hair care product is Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Shampoo & Conditioner. It helps replenish moisture and give my hair more body and shine.

NM: While hair coloring has always been a favorite trend for women, but hair coloring damages the hair a lot. Are there any treatments to bring back your hair to life?

RW: We all love trying new unique colors in our hair, yet we all struggle with the damage and brittleness feeling left with us. The best treatment for the hair would be to keep your well moisturized by having a deep condition done every 1-1/2 week. What we forget is that when we strip our natural hair color with lightener (bleach) we are taking out so much of the hairs natural oils and weakening the strands which cause the brittleness and dryness of the hair. Fill your hair back with nutrients and oils to bring it back to its somewhat normal state.

NM: Share some of your favorite DIYs with Vogue Amour followers.

RW: Hair care is on the top list for me in the DIY’s section. For healthy looking hair I use a mixture of olive oil, yogurt and a whisked egg to replenish the moisture. Leave the mixture on for 20-30 minutes, wash and air dry. Once again, natural ingredients are always a plus. When it comes to moisturizing the hair. I had suffered from acne for a couple years of my life. I would always pray for clear skin like all girls would. What would help my skin would be my mother’s DIY, I can’t take the credit of her as I would call it, “magical paste.” It’s a simple mixture of yogurt, turmeric powder and honey. First take a sheer cloth and put 2-3 tbsp. of yogurt in it and gently squeeze out the water that’s in the yogurt. You will be left with a stiff paste. After that add   1 tsp. of honey followed by 1 tbsp. of turmeric powder to the stiff paste of yogurt. Mix well and apply the paste to your face and let it dry. It might take 15-20 minutes. Wash with warm water and you will be left with smooth glowing skin. This reduced my acne and cleared up the skin over time. Hope this helps you all.

NM: What is one thing that anyone can do to be their most beautiful selves?

RW: One thing would be to have a good skin cleansing regimen. Having a clear skin also enriches the look of the foundation. Always remember to clean your face twice a day, followed by using a good skin moisturizer or serum. One thing that has worked for me is changing your pillowcase every 2-3 days. Remember that our pillow cases too grow germs and bacteria overnight. A clean pillowcase prevents breakouts as well.

NM:  What are some newly introduced techniques and trends in the makeup and the hair-styling world?

RW: There is always something new and interesting going on in the beauty and hair industry. Baking the face is a great trend that involves loose powder to be set under the eyes for 5-6 minutes after the foundation and concealer have been applied. This technique helps vanish the creases that appear under the eyes. It gives you a more flawless look.

NM:  The mistakes women should avoid while grooming themselves?

RW: The biggest mistake that women should avoid while grooming themselves would be wearing foundation that is 2-3shades lighter than your own complexion. That leaves your makeup looking gray in natural and fluorescent lighting. Highlighting the skin in specific portions of the face would be a better option. It gives the face more shape and angles leaving the skin looking on the more natural color side.

NM: Are you planning to conduct any master classes?

RW: In the future, yes I do planning on teaching classes, Insha’Allah. As of right now, I am focusing on branching out my techniques and style. I currently do bridal makeup and hair, which is my passion.

NM: Your experience with Vogue Amour?
